Frog is back from TVConnect 2014

 

Frog by Wyplay was at TVConnect 2014 to showcase its open source TV middleware development platformFrom March 18th to 20th, Frog was showcased on Wyplay’s booth at the TV Connect 2014 event in London. This was a great occasion to meet and mingle with current Frog Licensees, early adopters and future members of the Frog Community.

Canal+ Group is testing Frog by Wyplay

 

Canal+ Group, a market leading pay-TV provider, is in advanced deployment testing using a new software solution co-developed with Wyplay based on the Frog By Wyplay service.

 

Frog, the first independent open source solution targeted for television operators, allowed Canal+ to:

  • Develop a high performance graphical user-interface in HTML5,
  • Create partnerships with third-party software solution suppliers,
  • Build applications and interactivity on set-top box decoders and mobiles devices.

The Frog By Wyplay initiative aims to enable the development of a complete ecosystem around Wyplay’s technologies available in open source for TV devices middleware (e.g. set-top box), TV operator backend middleware and companion mobile applications. It creates a development architecture and network of partners that take care of the technical components so that operators can focus on their business.

Following our announcement last month at IBC, we got a lot of inquiries about technical details on the software architecture of the TV set-top box middleware source code that will be available through this website in Q1 2014. So, by popular demand from technical managers, architects and developers interested in Frog by Wyplay, here is an overview of what is « under the hood ».

 

The « client » part of the Frog offering consists in a layered software stack that involves components developed by Wyplay (blue bits in the diagram below) and third-party components (in grey) either open source or proprietary.

The IBC show in Amsterdam wrapped up last month and it has been a splash for us ! Over the five days of the show in RAI Amsterdam, our booth attracted hundreds of visitors and won a « Highly Commended » IBC Award in the « Best Larger Free-Design Stand » category.

More significantly, the show was the opportunity for us to showcase and reward the Frog by Wyplay early adopters with a specially-crafted « Frogbrick » trophy materialising our mutual commitment to creating an ecosystem of technology providers around Wyplay’s open source software solution, free from proprietary lock-ins, and agnostic to hardware characteristics or TV delivery frontends (satellite, cable, terrestrial, IPTV, OTT). See the Frogbricks photo gallery below.
